Mary Mallon, also known as Typhoid Mary was an Irish cook who emigrated to the United States sometime between 1883 and 1884 and eventually found work cooking for affluent families in NewYork. She was found to be, after she infected about 50 people, an asymptomatic carrier of Typhoid. She spent about a quarter-century on the North Brother Island in NewYork after she was first placed in quarantine, was released and continued to infect people. She died on the Island.
